Can more people find health insurance during a pandemic?

COVID-19 wreaked havoc on many people’s employment and, in turn, their health insurance coverage — making them physically, mentally, and financially vulnerable. Knowing that health insurance is more important than ever, it was vital that Access Health CT help anyone and everyone access quality, affordable health insurance — especially those who need it most.

We emphasized the importance of having health insurance by acknowledging that we’ve all been affected by the pandemic. And we added a positive spin by acknowledging that we’ve all found ways to stay connected — including connections to health insurance through AHCT. To bring insurance to as many residents as possible, we focused on reaching populations that may have been unaware of AHCT’s services, in addition to existing customers. Video and blog posts offered extensive educational (and bilingual) information about details, deadlines, and customer support. Messages were delivered via paid and earned digital platforms, cable and streaming television, print, email, and traditional mail.

The 2021 Open Enrollment campaign helped facilitate 104,946 enrollments, including 19,056 new customers. And we continue to support AHCT’s year-round efforts to protect as many qualified residents as possible through Special Enrollment.
